Meet the Teens

All year long, four nights a week---and sometimes on weekends too!---the Alexandria House teens (and their trusty volunteer leaders) get together to study, talk, write, cook, act, and learn all about life and one another. Many have been attending Alexandria House programs since kindergarten; some joined the programs when they were a bit older. All a part of the local community. This year's teens include Grace, Juan, Carlos, Noel, Walter, Gio, Daisy, Jessica, Abraham, and Jorge. Meet the teens ...

One warm spring day we headed downtown to take photographs for our poetry, essay and art book, "A Dose of Our Minds," which is available for purchase on blurb.com (see the link to the right).

Learning kitchen skills---and then sitting down together to eat the results afterward ... always a great opportunity for in-depth conversations.

The gals hanging out at Knott's Berry Farm, one of many field trips.

Another field trip took us to the Long Beach Aquarium ...

For three years, the teens have been participating in a writing workshop every other Wednesday night ... we talk about topics of all kinds, from relationships to racism. But free write seems to be the most popular.

More focused writing ... one of those rare moments when the room isn't filled with talk and laughter!!
